Latest coup for Europa Plus in Russia

While others talk and write about press restrictions in Russia, Radio Rétro, a subsidiary of EUROPA PLUS Moscow (Lagardère Group), recently submitted a winning bid for a license to operate an FM station in Moscow. The license comes with a five-year, renewable term.

The Group plans on rapid expansion for its second radio format, with 30 or so franchises and subsidiaries in Russia and neighboring countries for 2001.

The Russian Oldies format targets listeners over 40 and will include news programs and cultural events. A web site is also planned.

With the new license and the success of this new format, a new private-sector radio group has emerged in Russia. Other formats are currently being researched.
