Mezzo Live HD: the most beautiful of concert halls in High Definition

Paris, April 9, 2010
Since April 7, a new 100% Hi-Def station, Mezzo live HD, can be seen on Numéricâble channel 370 in Paris. The service is available throughout France since April 14.
Mezzo live HD, the magic of high definition provides a close-up view of the living arts
100% native HD, Mezzo Live HD allows the closest restitution possible of musical emotion: the attack of a bow on a violin string, the acting of an opera singer, or the mutual understanding between a conductor and his orchestra. Besides the exceptional sound quality, HD reveals all of the unperceived details of a concert! The difference with standard definition is remarkable. The reality and emotion of the living arts have never been so palpable.
Mezzo live HD, the 100% high definition station offers exceptional concerts and live performances.
Each month the viewer will be invited into the world’s most prestigious concert halls.
In April, we will go to Salzburg for Mozart operas, then to Lucerne and to Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw for great symphonic concerts, as well as the Paris Opéra for dance. Mezzo live HD also brings you a major jazz concert every week. In April we will see Diana Krall in Rio de Janeiro. The weekly ballet will be broadcast on April 9 live from the Paris Opéra: the prestigious debut of Siddharta by Angelin Preljocaj.
Exceptional live broadcasts will be at the heart of Mezzo live HD’s programming: in May, we will bring you to La Scala in Milan for Wagner’s Rhinegold, and to the Berlin Philharmonic under the direction of Daniel Barenboïm.
Mezzo and Mezzo live HD have also forged partnerships with the world’s greatest musical institutions: the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Salle Pleyel, the Lyon Opéra, and the Opéra Comique in Paris.
Mezzo Live HD, a complement to Mezzo.
Mezzo and Mezzo live HD play complementary roles in their formats and their programming. With Mezzo live HD, 100% living arts, naturally Mezzo is on its home ground, with a wide palette of programs, including master classes, documentaries, etc. The two channels offer a complementary rhythm: none of the programs are shared during a given month, and different genres will be shown on the two channels at any a given time. For example, the opera broadcast Thursdays and Sundays on Mezzo live HD will be the Saturday prime time show that Mezzo subscribers adore. A subscriber to both channels can thus see three different operas in prime time.
For Christophe Winckel, director of Mezzo: “Mezzo live HD, the 100% HD channel, conveys the visual and auditory emotions of the living arts. Mezzo live HD makes it possible for everyone to attend the world’s greatest musical events in the best conditions possible, even when the box office is sold out! Mezzo live HD is for both the musical aficionado and the newcomer.
The former will be delighted to see the most demanding and ambitious programs, while the latter, who may not have entered a concert hall, will discover musical emotion close-up. The ambition of Mezzo live HD, as for Mezzo itself, is to be the channel of reference, in Europe, in Asia and elsewhere internationally-wherever High Definition and classical music are appreciated.”
